Awaken 2024
Lineage is not linear. Enter into sacred space with your ancestors and descendants, as the past, present, and future weave together into one tapestry. Awaken 2024, Illuman's annual men's gathering, calls you come and add your story to the pattern. We will gather on the weekend of All Saints, All Souls, and Día de los Muertos to reconnect with our stories of origin - honoring the wisdom of those who have gone before - so together we can foster a better story for our collective future.

COUNCIL AND MIRRORING
The most common malady in all human relationships – and in life for that matter - is to not be seen and understood for who you truly are. Witnessing is the oldest and perhaps the most powerful tool for the healing of all people. The process for this is Council. In council, it is through the quality of our listening and not the wisdom of any words that we are able to affect the most profound changes in others. When we listen, we offer sanctuary for the homeless parts within another person. Those which have been denied, unloved, and devalued by others and themselves. When we listen and attune to someone well, they can hear the truth in themselves often for the first time. We call this process mirroring. The goal is to mirror people and all things faithfully, deeply, and fully, until all things know who they are. ---Rachel Naomi Remen /Richard Rohr.
Our facilitator will be John Lew (Illuman of SoCal, Animas Valley Institute, The School of Lost Borders, and the CG Jung Study Center in LA).
Join us for a one-day training session in the art of Council and Mirroring….
Come with a heart ready to greet one another, and to share what this year has given to you and your family since we last gathered.
Bring:
Chair and drum
Reusable water bottle
Hat or cap
Sunscreen
Journal and writing implement
Lunch will be provided.

Dia De Los Muertos
We invite you to attend our very special, Dia de los Muertos bi-lingual virtual gathering. This will be a powerful and participatory Day of Remembrance based on ancient teachings and spirituality behind this celebration of death, life, and the worlds beyond. For three days every year, Mexicans and Mexican Americans gather for Dia de los Muertos. The people gather in cemeteries and homes to remember their deceased loved ones.
The last of those days, November 2, falls on the traditional Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed - All Souls Day. Both observances remember the dead. All Souls remembers and prays for "all the faithful departed"; Dia de los Muertos welcomes the return of the departed for a yearly family visit.
The Dia de Los Muertos celebrations allowed Catholic tradition to embrace and include indigenous traditions whose roots are deep in prehistory -- in the Americas, in Europe and around the world.
Dia de los Muertos taps into a timeless and worldwide desire to make peace with death and embrace how best to live. Dia de los Muertos obscure or hide the fact that its roots are deep and long preceded the current expressions. To learn about and experience this powerful tradition is to dignify the Indigenous People who have practiced this celebration as a way of life, and it will create a special opportunity for you to reflect on your own traditions, beliefs, and practices around death and times of transition.
Our Wounds
Inspired by Caravaggio's painting, "The Incredulity of St. Thomas," the retreat will invite us to explore our own wounds and the need to transform them. The retreat will be led by a team from ILLUMAN SoCal - a non-profit organization committed to supporting men who wish to deepen their spiritual lives, seeking to become better and more authentic. All men are welcome.
